“NAaT Shotlist Numbering Tools” add-on for Google Docs
This is a little add-on to use with Google Docs that auto-numbers the comments.
My method for writing a shotlist for my videos is to paste a lightbulb emoji 💡wherever i want a new shot to happen, and then add a comment to it, and describe the shot in the comment.
i give each comment a prefix to indicate which section of the game/batch of shots it belongs to. So every “player board” shot begins with the prefix PB. Every common board shot begins with B. Every closeup is CU, and so on. i split the shots into batches this way because it’s “expensive” to constantly move and refocus the camera doing a shoot. It’s much more efficient to just lock the camera into one position and bang out all the Player Board shots, and then lock it to another position and bang out all the common board shots.
Before this script existed, i then had to go back through my script and hand-number all of the shotlist comments, keeping track of the number i was on using tally marks on a little whiteboard. This was very time-consuming, especially for a long script. i tried time and again to write a script that would do this for me automatically, but i could never get access to the Google Drive API’s comments, because the API calls them something other than “comments,” and setting up all the OAuth permissions was a bit of voodoo in an egregiously complex developer backend that i didn’t understand. ChatGPT wasn’t even smart enough to figure it out for me.
… Until now. At long last, ChatGPT was able to walk me through the process, all while referring to an outdated interface configuration… but i toughed it out and reached the deployment step. Now i apparently i have to run around adding logos to it and exposing my email address as tech support if i want to deploy the thing live so that i can use it. So here we are.
